You would find it hard to believe that this tranquil oasis is on the edge of Castries the capital of St. Lucia. It is just above the Vigie Bay Marina on the hill over looking the harbour and the inlet that is a natural sanctuary for many birds and marine life.

Take a Walk to The City
You can take a shortcut to the harbour dock at point Seraphine. It’s just 5 minutes away from your villa. On the way you pass the fish market and duty free shop. Further on is Castries, a bustling tropical port city with government and business offices, churches, parks, monuments, markets and shops of all sorts. There are restaurants, haberdashery, beauty salons, hairdresser, hardware stores, department stores and shopping for all your needs.
The fruit and vegetable stalls in the market are a popular attraction for its fresh local products brought into town daily by the local farmers.
Its only moments away for city shopping, the markets, restaurants and close to all activities. But, it feels like it is miles away in a tropic forest. Poinsettia villas are spacious and private.
Organic fruit and vegetables are grown in the family estate adjoining the 7 villas, pool and roof top terrace. Coconuts, breadfruit, mangoes, bananas, vegetables and provisions from the garden are shared with guests when in season.
There is a statue of Sir John Compton that stands in center of Castries town in St. Lucia. Tourist often just passed it by without knowing much about it. So we want to put that right:
Sir John Compton was the farther of St. Lucia Independence (achieved on 22 February 1979). He was a fiery orator and by all accounts the British had their hands full when he landed on their shores to talk about independence. He had studied law and economics at University College of Wales from 1948 to 1949 and the London School of Economics from 1949 to 1951 and was an able communicator with a powerful vocabulary and a sharp independent mind.
Sir John repatriated the constitution and led St. Lucia to independence from the British in 1979. The negotiations where full of fire as Sir John was an outspoken antagonist.
Apparently he was kept waiting far too long for his liking and when finally called into the ministers offices, he open with a bast that he was no lackey to be waiting on their matters of priority when he had come several thousand miles to meet them, with respect, and he expected nothing less than the same from them. This sort of disdain, he declared, was exactly why St. Lucia needed to break the British ties.
On signing the declaration he pronounced “the colour of our skin is against us and a government, even a one that professes democracy, is pleased to legislate and pronounce the doctorine of second class citizenship for people of another colour.”
That sort of spirited encounter from a man of the people is a story worth sharing.
He is indeed one of the remarkable men of this tiny island. Sir John fits well into the mold of exceptional St. Lucian’s – along with the two St. Lucia Nobel Laureates poet Derick Walkcott andeconomist Sir William Arthur Lewis.
The Castries Statue of Sir John Compton is a bronze sculpture by Ricky George of St. Lucia. It shows him holding the new constitution he received from Briton. It is 9 feet tall and stands on a 6-foot base. The inscription reads: “The Right Honourable Sir John George Melvin Compton / Saint Lucia’s First Prime Minister & Champion of Caribbean Integration / 1925 – 2007. The Statue was commissioned by the Government of St. Lucia and completed in 2011.

Castries the capital city of Saint Lucia was established by the French in 1650, Castries now has a population of just over 11,000. Attractions: Castries duty free shopping, Castries Market for fruits, vegetables and handicrafts. Restaurants and ports. Castries look like a city in disarray, but if you take time you will find hidden gems, one is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception – see Murals local artist inside. The Poinsettia Villa Apartments are really special. The staff is wonderful. Margaux helped us in so many ways–like contacting the tour company organizing our excursions to find out the pick-up times. She provided more than you might expect–a loaner local phone, for example, and the number for a good local taxi service and the fares to expect. She was always willing to provide any information I needed–like the opening times for the nearest supermarket during the New Year’s holidays.
Our villa apartment (# 2 TreeTops 2 bedroom ocean view villa ) was large, with everything we needed, with a panoramic view. It was quiet and clean, and the gardens were beautiful. I absolutely loved watching the sunset with my husband from the deck and, in the early morning from our kitchen table, seeing the ships in the shining water of the harbor.

When we traveled on excursions with visitors from cruise ships or “all-inclusive” resorts, I felt sorry for them because of all they were missing–a feeling of being at home and being a “temporary local,” as well as getting to know some wonderful St. Lucians.
Staying at a place like the Poinsettia Villa Apartments, we had twice the experience at a fraction of the cost. For example, I have a wonderful memory of the Saturday market in Castries, when a local fellow shopper helped me select a mango that would be ripe enough to eat the same day. For another example, I was able to appreciate the Vigie peninsula more after hearing Margaux’s description of the way it used to be years ago.
The apartments are very well located. Three good restaurants are very nearby; it’s easy to walk to central Castries. We took trips north to Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island and south to Soufriere. We chose the Poinsettia Villa Apartments because of the excellent reviews, and we understand why those reviews were so good–and we agree!

“I just got back from my stay at Poinsettia Villa Apartments. It was a wonderful experience. It is a family run business and everyone is so helpful and friendly.The villa apartment I stayed in was #6 and it was very spacious and clean with two bedrooms en-suite .Large living area, well equipped kitchen, stove, microwave, cooking utensils, washing machine, dryer,iron etc .. Made the apt feel like a home away from home.
The grounds are beautifully kept, with lots of colorful tropical plants and fruit trees. The property is nestled on a hillside overlooking the harbour . The views were amazing and one of my favorite things to do was sit on the terrace and watch the sunset as the cruise ships went by….. I also enjoyed my morning swim and relaxing on the lounge chairs by the pool so peaceful and quiet .
Poinsettia is also conveniently located near to the capital Castries, duty free shopping , restaurants like the Coal Pot and the beautiful Vigie beach ! It was nice to have free wifi to keep in touch with family back home .Hope to return soon!”

The Nook Villa Experience
The Nook has always been a favorite resting spot at Poinsettia villa apartment since we opened the doors. It is cozy, quiet, cool and nestled between the pool and the gardens.
The YouTube Blog has the entire transcript of what Marie said in her review and as you can see HolidayHotelreviews have donr=e a great job of making all come alive with real video and photos that animate the experience.
All villas have their own specific charm and personality. The Nook is a little differed in that it is tucked away under the roof top terrace and between the pool and the gardens with a good through breeze most of the time. Guests always tell us that it is Quiet, Cool and Private. It does not have a direct view of the ocean. Marie often relaxed in the outside garden area just a few feet away from her front door. The sea is visible and it is a lovely shaded spot under the trees. Perhaps that is why guest who stay there always want to come back to the Nook; Safe, Quiet, Cool and Private.

“We spent a week here and now have serious withdrawal symptoms. Overlooking Vigie Cove and Auberge Seraphine, this family run, self-catering apartment complex is truly a gem. Thank you so much [Everyone].
The apartments are perfect for independent travellers like us, who want to experience the real Caribbean. The apartments are spacious, well decorated, fully equipped and comfortable.
Everything one could hope for in a home, away from home! Even the fruits from the garden are a treat! Thanks! Good wifi and thrilled that we were provided with a cell phone to use! Poinsettia apartments are located within walking distance to downtown Castries where we did our shopping in the Central Market. Good prices and friendly people.
Also Vigie Beach is about 20 min walk away. This beach is perfect, where the locals bathe and away from the hustle of the more touristy places. At times it felt like we were the only ones there. We rented a car and thanks to Margaux who kindly arranged quotes for us. This allowed us to experience more of the island on our own. But it was so great to come back to the apartment in the afternoon, have a swim in the pool, watch the sunset and see the Carnival catamaran cruises return to their base.
I loved floating in the pool and watching the White Egret birds which nest outside Auberge Seraphine, fly overhead. We wish the pool hours could be extended for a couple hours more in the evening though. In closing we have had a perfect stay and hope to be back again soon to Saint Lucia and Poinsettia Villas.”

Margaret was a wonderful guest and it was lovely having her to stay. She was a real “Poinsettia person”, someone who just does not want to be thought of as a tourist when they travel to get away and rejuvenate.

They definitely do not want to be herded around with a crowd of tourist. It was lovely to see Margaret write about our human touch. Our family gardens are bursting with fruits and vegetables which we often leave at guests’ doors, without making a song and dance or interrupting them. Privacy is important here and travellers who are not tourists mingle when they want and with whom they want. We don’t have cocktail parties and set agendas of any sort. Guests often meet and conversation and friendship do spring up because we are like-minded people who enjoy and appreciate quiet reflection and personal experience. And it seems that we independent-minded travelllers are not alone. Nearly 50% of people polled by Airbnb said that they really do not like navigating huge crowds of people.

Phones are always a problem for travellers and sometimes it’s not all that easy or convenient to change Sim cards, especially when you want to maintain the chats and connections you have with home. That is why we sometimes just lend guests a phone to help them get around, make appointments and arrange tours.
We keep a small supply of cell phones on hand for those who don’t want to bother with changing SIMs and would like to be in contact with things on the island. It saves a lot of bother.

All our team are people persons and love to help. If we can, we help out with occasional lifts, especially when guests first arrive. Just as Philip helped out with a lift to the supermarket. Although we often add a welcome basket, there is often something one would like on arrival.

The reviews are aggregated from all sites on the net including TripAdvisor and now even our own website with the new Guests Feedback & Reviews Page. It means guests do not have to laeve our site to see reviews that include a text summary and also jshow what the reviewer is talking about.

There are several mocking birds that you will hear when staying at Poinsettia Villa Apartments. They are the birds most featured in our home page video. Their song is beautiful and varied because they mock other birds and even people. You will hear Mocking Birds Singing throughout the day but they are especially tuneful early in the morning and at sunset.

Saint Lucia Bird watching
Over 177 different species of birds have been sighted in the various walks and nature trails on the island, several are endemic to the island. There are many migratory birds and Inland Water Birds. Hummingbirds, The St Lucia Pee Wee, St Lucia Warbler, St Lucia Oriole, Banana Quit, Carib Grackle, Black Faced Grass Quit, Black Finch, Fly Catcher and Tropical Mocking Bird are just a few of the many species that you might see on your nature walks. Birding Tours
Bird watching Saint Lucia is very accessible in St. Lucia as nothing is very far away. The island is only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide and their are many nature paths and tours not far from your villa at Poinsettia. The gardens at Poinsettia are home to many species including the mockingbird, sparrows, thrushes and thrashers. The inlet at the foot of the hill is a natural sanctuary for Egrets. There are always some Egrets to be seen on the trees but most fly off at dawn and back again at dusk.

St. Lucia renewable energy from wind and sun
The St. Lucia Government announced recently that it already has two government agencies now equipped with solar power and that by 2020 35% of its electricity will be from renewable sources which will include use of abundant natural resources like the wind and sun.
“The transition to renewable power sources is a fundamental component of the energy security and price stability thrust of the government of St. Lucia,” Prime Minister Kenny Anthony’s administration said.
The Government is also planning on reducing public-sector energy consumption by 20 % in the nest 5 years.
This is on the heals of having received funding for its Geothermal Resource Development Project which got $2.8 million in grants from the World Bank and the New Zealand government last year.
